The popularity of the Halston name and the success of the collection were apparent as a record number of buyers began to fill the newly redecorated Fieldcrest showfloor as early as 8:00 o’clock Monday morning the beginning of Market Week. In keeping with the im portance of the Halston intro ductions, a gala party was held on May 18 for members of the magazine and newspaper press, store presidents and buyers. The site chosen was the Club at the Top of the famous World Trade Center, 107 stories high above the tip of Manhattan Island. Halston himself was on hand to greet both press and store guests and discuss his collection displayed in attractive room setting vignettes. Over 1,000 guests, including members of the Fieldcrest Marketing Division and key manufacturing executives, turned out to make the affair one of the most noted and successful Market Week parties ever.' Halston believes that “less is best in all matters of taste.” He has said “What I’ve done is sim ple. Literally. I’ve designed a collection of uncomplicated, appropriate and I believe, very beautiful ways to achieve instant decoration for the bed and bath — without overdecoration.” And he has lavished on his collection all the special touches, fine tailoring and attention to detail that have helped to rocket him to the summit of the fashion world. The Halston for Fieldcrest Collection consists of three distinctive design groupings that relate to each other and yet can (Continued on Page Five) Bicentennial Mementos Are Distributed As part of the observance of the Bicentennial, mementos of our country’s 2Mth birthday are being distributed to Fieldcrest employees. Some already have received the materials and others will receive them during this week. To be distributed to each employee is a facsimile of the Declaration of Inde pendence. The document is suitable for framing, or em ployees may wish to keep it for children or grandchil dren as a memento of the Bicentennial year. In a letter accompanying the document, William C. Battle, president of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc., cites the “privilege of living in a great and free country” and calls for a recommitment to “those ideals and principles upon which this nation was founded.”
